In-Vehicle Infotainment Community

Documentation

The hardware and software for an OIP should be designed to enable a wide range of applications that cater to in-vehicle usage scenarios. Applications include:

  • Text to Speech (TTS) for navigation prompts, e-mail and SMS messages
  • Speech Recognition to enable hands-free interaction with the head unit's HMI
  • Video applications that stream multiple programs to the rear seat displays while simultaneously displaying rear-view camera video on the head unit display
  • Navigation applications that combine on-board navigation with real-time traffic updates from the Internet

The Moblin-based software architecture and reference implementation include features that are well suited for IVI applications:

  • Vehicle Identification Number support
  • Traffic Information Manager
  • Automotive Connectivity support
  • Bootloader with special boot options and fast startup support
  • SMS/MMS Gateway

Architecture Overview Document
This document provides a summary of the hardware and software reference implementation within the Moblin IVI community, which can be used to develop an OIP.

Documentation Roadmap
The following documents will be available by Fall 2008:

  • Applications User Guide
This document will include detailed developer documentation on each of the middleware functional components described in the Architecture Overview Document.
  • API Reference Guide
This document will include reference documentation on each API in the Moblin-based reference implementation.
